A newspaper reports our local Mayor says:
a “detailed investigation” into the cause of the power cuts is needed
Leave such investigations alone, they're not a concern of your over-taxed ratepayers. Especially not those such as yourself that must be seen 'to be doing something', but are only ever seen in the media outside our ratepayer's palace posing with a big bone on a necklace.
I'm sure that Top Energy Board is directly feeling the heat over these matters from Far North businesses and residents. The Far North load is at the end of the Transpower supply chain and like the rest of the country they certainly do not give a damn about anything north of the Brynderwyns.
The Northland MP is on to it - he says "he’s in touch with lines company Top Energy to get to the bottom of the issue". In other words, read doing 5/8ths of SFA. The second Northland MP that apparently is somewhere via the apartheid seat is never seen and appears to have kept out of matters.
Mr. Mayor maybe you could actually get away from the palace and address the dropouts along the roads which have had zero preventative maintenance for the past decade. I see the markings 'area to repair' increase in size each budget round, but nothing gets done. The mud / rockfalls onto the roads increase each rain event and still nothing gets done. These days, they are not even cleaned off the road. The many subsidences are effective ski-jumps and often are vehicle-damaging locations. More cones with speed reductions via signposts and few shovels of poorly placed asphalt do not form an economic long term repair. Simple things like removing gravel and leaf detritus from road gutters before the any rain event is just too hard for your team.
Mt Mayor please stay in your lane, firstly sort out your own backyard.
