So that's capital gains. They're not [so much] in the business of providing retirement accommodation as much as in the business of earning capital gains.

For wage and salary earners, all our income gets taxed but capital gains are earned over a time and they don't get taxed. It's all perfectly legal but what's legal is not necessarily fair

The politics of envy.  They dog-whistle that Labour would make things 'fairer' for workers.  We'll see how that works out as the so called living wage closes small businesses.  And stop hiring leftie scum.

A pox on all of them

I see the political whores are out in force offering their poxed version of the RMA.

United Future and the Act Party have joined forces to offer the National Party a way of breaking the long impasse on planning reforms - at the expense of the Maori Party.

The two parties restated in an open letter today that they will support the Resource Management Act (RMA) reforms if National agrees to three concessions.

They want proposed powers for the Environment Minister to override councils to be scrapped; greater recognition of property rights, and the exclusion of iwi consultation requirements.

It must an election year.

National needs two votes to get the reforms over the line.

It struck a deal with the Maori Party last year after agreeing to include provisions that would give iwi a greater role in the consenting process, known as iwi participation agreements.

However, the Maori Party then threatened to pull its vote unless the Government scrapped the ministerial override powers, which United Future and Act also oppose.

The Maori Party was especially concerned that the powers could be used to stop councils from creating their GE-free zones in their regions.

Will someone not stand up for property owners and remove the cancerous RMA from our lives?

National facing an embarrassing defeat on one of its major pieces of legislation

In my view there are no mitigating circumstances at play here.  Firstly a gang member, secondly proven to be a serial absconder.

Gang member?  Forget mitigating factors, lock the bastard up and throw the key away. A holiday on the taxpayer continuing business as usual on an ankle bracelet should not be an option.

Time for the Minister responsible to sort out the Judiciary and then change the law.

All plans these days will have gradients to 0.5m along with boundary and house positions accurately detailed to the nth degree on submitted plans.   As is required for any building consent these days.   Then, a simple exercise to calculate finished slope from garage door to boundary.

 I think it would be very difficult for the person that does that to check the gradient ... [but] when you're building, you've got to make sure people can drive onto it.

Once it has been registered by our rural team it will show on the website in the next update. 

As we update our website once a month, it is most likely that your address will be update in the July update

The wait continues for full mail delivery from NZ Post.  And companies like Meridian will only send bills to the previous address till NZ Post gets off its arse and some lackey enters the data.

NZ Post, nice to know you're presenting stale data in your address finder.

There was never any talent at TV3, just jumped up news readers and reality TV merchants hawking manufactured scandal as news and current affairs.

Another show pony is hit by the door as TV3 races to oblivion.  Seems to be a trait of lefties these days.

Last Saturday we picked up the unaccompanied minors ex Jafaland from the airport at Palmerston North. 

As the babysitters of choice for these school holidays, we were pleasantly surprised to receive multiple texts during the day as the airline scanned and took charge of the grandkids at various stages of the journey. Unaccompanied minors are given a wristband like a fitbit band which holds their travel details to be scanned at certain points of the trip. 

The texts are a big improvement on the previous manual process, keeping both parents and grandparents fully informed from check in to eventual handover at the destination. 

Well done Air New Zealand!
